Film, Motorcycles, and A-Kon
Wow, it's been a while, hasn't it, folks? I've been meaning to post, but... I've been busy, sorta.
A couple weeks ago, I went to A-kon in Dallas. I must say, it was fun. Three days of anime, fun, and ninjas-versus-pirates ((pirates rock.)). A brief overview:
Day one: Got there around 4, got my badge. Wandered around the con for a while, looking for some friends. Ran into one in the main room, I tried to call some other friends (but they didn't show up), we decided to go to the opening ceremonies, where we ran into someone he knew, who was with a couple of 22-year-old girls from Georgia. They were nice, and wouldn't stop saying how cute I was once I told them I was only 15. End of day one.
Day two: Got up around 9, called friends around 11, made plans to meet up around noon. Hung out with friends all day, I got a new State Alchemist pocketwatch, and a bunch of manga, and got Mike McFarland's (the director of and Jean Havoc in FMA) and Vic Mignogna's (voice of Ed Elric from FMA) autographs on volume 8 of the FMA manga. Later I got hit on the head with a paper fan by the old co-president and King and Tyrant of the Japanese Pop Culture Club at my school and watched a couple smaller-yet-older-than-me females I knew try on corsets. Took a few pictures that day, there were some fun cosplayers that day. One person even took my picture! ((I was dressed as the FullNeko Alchemist. I've been told my Edcoat is pretty good, many people asked if it was bought, but it's home made.)) Fun times all around. End of day two.
Day three: Got up, did a little bit of stuff, tried to get together with friends, but they were not to be found, so I wandered around the dealers' room, eventually ran into a couple friends, had a ramune with them, but had to leave shortly thereafter. Left around noon. It was a bummer. I wanna meet up with my friends over the summer. I'm bored.
On to more recent news:
During the past two weeks, I've been taking a Film class at UT, run by the Austin Film Festival. It's fun, I got to mess around with some cool equipment, we even shot our own movies (in 4 groups). We chose to do the idea of the other guy in the group, and, while it was the best idea for a movie in our group, he wanted to run the movie by himself. He really was unbearable during some of the shots. But we're done shooting now, and just finished editing today, and tomorrow we're all going to watch all the movies... I and one of the girls in my group stuck around after everyone else had left to finish some minor edits ((for example, making sure we were credited for everything we did for the film)) that the unbearable guy wouldn't let us do before. I'm sure he'll be pissed tomorrow when he finds out. Sucks to be him.
Last weekend, I did a motorcycling course that was run through the Harley dealership in South Austin. Saturday and Sunday we went to a course that was on what I think used to be an old air-traffic center, or something to that effect to ride for the first time. I took a few falls, but nothing too bad. I passed the test, so if I want to, I can get a motorcyclist's license. Yay me!
And that's all, so... This is Oni, signing off.
